The Tower is an incredibly unique spot in Edinburgh. It is a historic seaside tower you can take over for the evening for a special celebration or a truly different night out. Tucked away by the beach in Portobello, it feels more like having your own little Scottish townhouse than a typical private dining room.
Our exceptional in house chef can create a seasonal menu just for you. You are also very welcome to cook for yourself or bring in outside catering. We will simply need to check a few things first. The Tower is a flexible space for people who love good food, unique experiences and a setting with real character.
Foodies are welcome to come and cook with us, working alongside our chef with a strong focus on seasonal produce. Locals who have known The Tower from the outside for years finally get to see inside. When the weather allows, guests often arrive through the courtyard for a drink before heading upstairs. They wander through the rooms, taking in the views from the living room or the roof terrace. Afterwards, everyone gathers in the open plan kitchen for a delicious meal surrounded by friends and loved ones with the easy buzz of a family style kitchen.
It feels intimate, personal and a world away from a noisy restaurant or a formal hotel dining room. Whether you are hosting a candlelit dinner, a milestone celebration or a creative supper club, The Tower creates an atmosphere that feels warm, thoughtful and effortlessly special. Every event is hosted by the family who restored the building by hand, which ensures a relaxed and welcoming experience from start to finish.
Designed for Intimate Gatherings
Tower is made for small and meaningful gatherings rather than large or formal events. With one beautifully restored room on each floor, plus a rooftop and a private courtyard, the evening flows naturally. Drinks outside. A moment in the living room with that beautiful view. A seated meal in the open plan kitchen.
The building has space for up to fifteen guests, or up to eighteen by arrangement. It is ideal for birthday dinners, engagements, launch events or long overdue catch ups that deserve to feel special without feeling over the top. When you book, the entire tower is yours. No shared spaces. No interruptions.
The Tower offers different formats for private dining so you can choose exactly how much support you want. You can arrive for simple dry hire and do everything your own way. You can choose a lightly hosted evening. You can also enjoy a fully styled and fully supported soirée where we look after the flow, the service and the finer details

For creative hosts or private chefs seeking flexibility. Access all floors for up to 3–8 hours, with utilities, cleaning and rooftop access included. Whats not included: Staffing, Styling, Music, Coordination or Supplier Management. Dry Hire Requires named responsible person, a signed contract and a refundable £300 damage deposit.

The Culinary Experience
Private dining at The Tower is about more than a nice meal, it is the whole atmosphere around the table. You can work with our exceptional in-house chef on a seasonal menu, or bring your own private chef and we will support them behind the scenes. Either way, the focus is on good ingredients, relaxed service and the feeling of being in a beautiful home rather than a restaurant.
We have a strong focus on seasonal Scottish produce and simple, delicious food that suits the occasion. That might be a long, lingering tasting menu, sharing plates in the kitchen or a family style feast. Foodies love cooking alongside our chef in the open-plan kitchen, while others prefer to sit back with a glass of wine and let everything appear in front of them.
Optional dining experiences include private chef dining with three to five course menus, typically £95–£145 per person, rooftop champagne and canapés from around £28 per person, whisky or gin tastings from approximately £35 per person and dessert or cheese tables by local artisans from around £320. Whether it is an anniversary dinner or a creative tasting event, The Tower brings together fine food, beautiful design and coastal calm in one unforgettable setting.
Atmosphere, Styling and Music
Each floor of The Tower has its own mood. The courtyard is perfect for golden hour drinks when the weather plays along, and inside the candlelit interiors and open-plan kitchen feel warm, lived in and welcoming rather than formal.
Upstairs, the living room has those big, beautiful views, and the rooftop gives you that special feeling of being above it all with the sea and city around you. Styling is kept understated and thoughtful, with candles, seasonal flowers, simple linens and little details that match the tone of your evening.
To shape the mood even more, you can add an acoustic musician or string duo , a vinyl DJ at low volume, a premium candle and linen upgrade and photography or short film coverage of the event.
Whether it is a milestone dinner, creative launch or private tasting, The Tower offers a space where people can connect, celebrate and savour every detail.
